“The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him. They began to shout, “ Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the king of Israel!””, John 12:12-13 NET
“Please LORD, deliver! Please LORD, grant us success! May the one who comes in the name of the LORD be blessed! We will pronounce blessings on you in the LORD’s temple.”, Psalms 118:25-26 NET
- So if I am understanding correctly, “Hosanna” in John 12 is translated from “Please Lord, deliver! Please Lord, grant us success!” In Psalms 118:25-26 because Hosanna means “Lord save us”? I’m not sure where “Blessed is the king of Israel” came from?
“Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, “ Do not be afraid, people of Zion; look, your king is coming, seated on a donkey ’ s colt! ””, John 12:14-15 NET
“Rejoice greatly, daughter of Zion! Shout, daughter of Jerusalem! Look! Your king is coming to you: he is legitimate and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey – on a young donkey, the foal of a female donkey.”, Zechariah 9:9 NET
- Zechariah was written around 520-518 BC.
