Righteous Father, even if the world does not know you, I know you, and these men know that you sent me. I made known your name to them, and I will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them, and I may be in them.””, John 17:25-26 NET

• God’s love is more than just a feeling He has towards us! God’a love empowers those He loves.

“When he had said these things, Jesus went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley. There was an orchard there, and he and his disciples went into it. (Now Judas, the one who betrayed him, knew the place too, because Jesus had met there many times with his disciples.) So Judas obtained a squad of soldiers and some officers of the chief priests and Pharisees. They came to the orchard with lanterns and torches and weapons.”, John 18:1-3 NET

“Judas then, having received the Roman cohort and officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, came there with lanterns and torches and weapons.”, John 18:3 NASB

• To me, the NET Bible is quite different from the NASB in verse 3. The NET Bible makes it sound like Judas was the one who obtained the soldiers whereas the NASB makes it sound like the chief priests obtained the soldiers and sent them with Judas and the chief priests who were going to get Jesus. It may be a small difference but a difference nevertheless. This is another example of why I think it is crucial to look at other translations. Interestingly, other translations seem to favor the NET’s rendering of this passage:

“So Judas, having procured a band of soldiers and some officers from the chief priests and the Pharisees, went there with lanterns and torches and weapons.”, John 18:3 ESV

“So Judas took a company of soldiers and some temple police from the chief priests and the Pharisees and came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.”, John 18:3 HCSB
